It began in true style with a paddle on Loughborough canal, getting on at my old canal haunt in staples car park. I have enjoyed many a paddle from there. Four of us met for a paddle before breakfast. Three river racers and a sea kayak ... Thankfully we didn't get rained on and enjoyed the sunshine. Then off we went for breakfast but had to go get it first ...
So obviously we went in our kayak gear! Asking a passer by to take the picture and making the Saturday morning shoppers laugh at us made it all the more enjoyable! I am reminded that the best things in life are indeed free.
After breakfast, I headed off to meet some of my friends I went to Uni with. After running about a field playing outside laser tag, I had muddy knees, a big smile and forgot how much I missed those guys. We had got together for my friend Sally's Hen do. Thankfully the north versus the south in the cardboard/cereal box game, showed that us southerners can rival the north!!! Yep put a bunch of girls who studied sport at Loughborough together and everything is a competition with banter. Although I did not join them for the late in the evening antics, I have no doubt the fun continued.
I then spent the rest of my weekend catching up with some other paddlers and past colleagues and had a nice boat with them around the barrow loop. It seems the loop is becoming a regular feature paddle for me over the last few weeks. I then took some chill time at the end of the paddle at the my friends pub, the Boathouse at Barrow Upon Soar or for that weekend it was Barrow on the Sea. So I could have had my picture taken with Mickey Mouse or Minnie Mouse but alas I was too slow for that :o( The music was good and I did enjoy the Punch and Judy show.
Then it was time to drive back to Warwickshire, ready for my week at work! All I need to do now is get myself back up and training as I have a few races to prepare for in September. The weekend was finished with the news that the England Women won the Rugby World Cup. Knowing and being friends with a few of the girls, it was awesome news. A huge congratulations to the whole team :o)
