As it is Mothers Day today, I hope my own special Mum has had a wonderful day.
As for me, I started my day paddling on the River Derwent paddling at Matlock. A great training session trying to use my river racer like a slalom boat. The size and length of the boat makes it a bit more challenging to not hit the poles. However, I do like a challenge. After the session I had a walk with the Popster to the Heights of Abraham and then onto High Tor. Plus a first for me today of trying Jaffa Cake ice cream, I would recommend it.
Probably and this is an assumption, like many athletes your mind starts asking questions and self doubt can creep in, in the run up towards your goal. I call it getting the hebby gebbies or the pre-selection race jitters. I have begun asking myself, am I good enough, have I done enough, has my prep been ok? So operation art of distraction has been put in place. Over the next 3 weeks it is all about positive reinforcement and talking through those nerves and following through with my plan. Finally and most of all, believing in myself and my ability.
Good luck to all those in the same position as me. Including all those who are getting ready for the London Marathon. I know a fair few people doing it this year!
