The last two weeks have been busy, filled with school visits, presenting at conferences, exhibiting my book and finally running courses around the country.
Last weekend saw the British Canoeing coaching conference, I was fortunate enough to be presenting at it and ran, what I thought was fun, games with a purpose workshop. Those who attended seemed to laugh, learn and hopefully take away some new ideas to put into their coaching toolbox. For me it was an opportunity to gain some inspiration from other coaches. Going to events such as theseakes you think about what you do as a coach and then potentially input new things into what you do. It also was great to meet up with some guess within the sport I have not seen for a while.
I also had a visit to The George Elliot School and Round Oak School as part of the Sky Sports Living for Sport athlete mentor role. I got to meet some amazing teachers and students. The students reminded me how exciting learning new sports can be as well as playing sports you haven't tried for many years. They also let you see the world in a different way, the great question they ask is 'why' comes up. You can see how working with them is so rewarding.
This evening I write from a hotel room in Bridgehouse, Yorkshire, after Day 1 of a course I am running. It has been a week of challenges ... predominantly with my house and the problem of condensation ... :o(
So like a text I received this morning taken from the Mary Poppins. Fun can be found in everything .. My new skill of this week is drylining walls.
A lot of time scouring the Internet, scratching my head and finally just deciding you just need to start and give it a go. Even though I was scared, unsure if I was doing the right thing, I gave it a go. :o) I hope it works!
