I am sat here beginning to count down the hours before embarking on one of my biggest challenges I have ever taken on. The devizes to Westminster race is one to not embark on lightly, it is one of the toughest canoeing races in the world. Many who attempt it, don't finish. There are so many variables that are out of your control, all you can do is prepare as much as you can and think about how you might deal with the worst case scenario.
I sit here listening to the wind and gusts and hope they will be less by the weekend. I hope the Thames will have some flow on it to help my K2 partner and I get to the finish.
Our support crew are gearing up and Thursday sees most of them come together for our pre-race meeting. This evening I began getting my gear together and it all feels more real now ...
Entry is in and we are boat 381 Mara / Shouldice
Crews will have GPS tracking devices on them and you can follow us day and into the night through this link.
Any support and encouragement is most welcome and I am sure every crew who is taking on this will be feeling the nerves and excitement that I feel right now!
I am also raising money for Spinal Research and my justgiving page is
Thanks to those who have sent good luck messages to me ... It is really appreciated!
