After the beautiful drive from Italy to Austria, I am certainly getting used to the mountains that surround me. It is so nice to wake up and look out the window and see the awesome view.
I have not got too much to report from the last two days as I have mostly spent my time in bed asleep. I did get on the river and practiced the course yesterday morning. The river compared with the one in Italy is very sedate and poses very different challenges. The flow is substantially less, but there are many rocks showing. So you need to use the rocks as marker points to ascertain where you are on the tier and where to point to next. The classic course has some shallow rocky beds which could catch you out and slow you down if you end up on the wrong thread of current.
The boys have all done multiple sessions and have been learning the routes. The foreigners are mostly all here and I did spend this afternoon watching them paddle (this was after I had awoken from my afternoon nap).
A fair bit of repairing has been taking place, mostly by out c1 paddler Ryan ably assisted and directed by Bartman. Ryan is keeping up the tradition of most Canoe paddlers I know by constantly repairing their boat. So all I have heard this evening was the angle grinder whirring away!
This afternoon for me was the first time I have felt human in a while and I am quite excited to be gettin back in my boat tomorrow morning. The rest of the team shall be resting, but as I have not paddled much I need to ensure I know the lines for the first World Cup on Friday.
Now though I am fairly relaxed and about to watch a film with the boys.
My picture for today is one for my running friends back home, or for those with running ambitions. The sign below made me chuckled and as I now have my smile returned to my face, I thought it would be a fitting end to the post today!
Ok so I thought my blog post had been done for the day until ... We heard a cannon go off with a massive boom!!!! Then we run out and hear loud music and off we go to find it! This is what we found hehe
Yep a brass band in full Austrian outfits.. I have uploaded a video onto my Facebook GillyMara page as they sounded awesome! We were like little children following the pied piper along the streets. It seems all in aid of their national day which is tomorrow.
